Child-Centred Play Therapy, or CCPT

As an experienced counsellor trained in play therapy with a well-equipped playroom, I offer quality, evidenced-based child-centred play therapy (CCPT) suitable for children aged approximately 4 to 11 years, with a wide range of concerns. These may include, but are not limited to anxiety, fears, family breakdown, grief and loss, trauma, behavioural and social challenges, low self-esteem and neurodivergence.

CCPT is an evidenced-based, non-directive, empathetic and respectful form of counselling for children. Interaction with specially selected toys and a trained counsellor provides the safety, freedom and opportunity for children to experience and express deep emotions, explore identity, develop self-control, release inhibitions, solve problems and make sense of their experiences. The playroom is a safe practice ground to try new things in a fun and engaging way.

Play is developmentally appropriate and children naturally use play as a form of communication and expression. Play therapy is thus highly appropriate for young children and those who are non-verbal.

CCPT deeply respects the child’s innate potential to solve problems, grow and heal. It provides the child with the time, opportunity and tools to do this in a supportive environment.

Parents and carers

Parents and carers are involved in the play therapy process through regular consultation and feedback.

Older Children and Youth

In addition to play therapy for young children, I offer counselling to older children and youth, experiencing a range of challenges. My approach is person-centred, using tailored techniques suited to the person and problem proven to foster self-awareness, growth and improve coping skills.

“In play therapy toys serve as children’s words and play as their language.”
